Round up of Tuesday prep basketball

NATCHEZ — Baylee Graning led Cathedral High School with a game-high 22 points as the Lady Green Wave defeated the rival St. Aloysius Lady Flashes 60-39 Tuesday night at the Roy A. Garcia Gymnasium.

Graning was the only Cathedral player to score in double figures, but she got plenty of help from her teammates. Madeline Smith finished with seven points while Hailey Ellis and Allie Feltus had six points apiece. Four other players contributed with four points each – Mia Gamberi, Ryleigh Probst, Annalyce Riley, and Yani Rojo.

The Lady Green Wave jumped out to a 19-7 lead after one quarter of play and then took a 35-22 lead over St. Aloysius into halftime. They would put the Lady Flashes away with a 14-5 advantage in the third quarter for a 49-27 lead.

Taylor Chewning led the Lady Flashes with 21 points and Anna Gatlin chipped in with six points.

Cathedral (3-2) next plays today at the Monterey High School Tournament against Block High School at 5 p.m.

Centreville Academy 60, ACCS 28

NATCHEZ — Savannah Hailey led all scorers with 29 points as the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers cruised to a 60-28 win over the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels Tuesday night.

This game was actually close in the first quarter as Centreville led ACCS 13-10 at the end of the quarter. It was all Lady Tigers from there as the put up 15 points in the second quarter and 21 points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels struggled when they had the ball and managed just seven points in each of those two quarters.

Karlyn Dalton scored 16 points for the Lady Tigers. Danyel Weir led the Lady Rebels wit 13 points and Marlee Magee added seven points.

ACCS (0-3) hosts Madison-Ridgeland Academy Thursday at 6 p.m. Centreville Academy (no record available) plays at Central Private School Thursday at 6 p.m.

Block 50, Ferriday 49

JONESVILLE — Cintina Green scored 16 points and Alliyah Ceasor added 10 points as the Block High School Lady Bears rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans 50-49 Tuesday night to remain undefeated.

A back-and-forth first quarter ended with Ferriday clinging to a 15-14 lead. Then it looked like the Lady Trojans were going to pull away for a blowout win after they outscored Block 14-6 in the second quarter for a 29-20 lead at intermission.

However, the Lady Bears got right back in the game with a 15-7 advantage in the third quarter to cut Ferriday’s lead to just one point, 36-35. Then they capped off the comeback win with a 15-13 edge in the fourth quarter.

Tierra Spurs led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 17 points and Pacha Poole poured in 11 points.

Ferriday (3-2) will take on Delta Charter School today at 4 p.m. at the Tensas High School Tournament. Block (5-0) takes on Cathedral today at 5 p.m. at the Monterey Tournament.

Wesson 54, Jefferson County 53 (OT)

WESSON — Ki’onna Gibson finished with 13 points and Jerinesha Edwards had 12 points as the Wesson High School Lady Cobras held on for a 54-53 overtime win over the Jefferson County High School Lady Tigers Tuesday night.

Wesson nearly let a 14-point halftime lead slip away, but the Lady Cobras were able to regain their composure and outscored Jefferson County 8-7 in the overtime session. The third quarter was what really got the Lady Tigers back in the game as they outscored the Lady Cobras 20-8.

Brittany Goldsberry led the Lady Tigers with a game-high 19 points and Lyric Ragin chipped in with nine points.

Jefferson County (3-2) hosts Natchez High School Friday at 6 p.m.

 

ACCS beats Centreville 37-36

NATCHEZ — The Centreville Academy Tigers needed a big fourth quarter to force overtime, but the Adams County Christian School Rebels were the ones who prevailed with a 37-36 win Tuesday night in their season-opener.

ACCS led Centreville 9-3 after one quarter of play and then 22-15 in the third quarter before the Tigers’ offense came alive as they outscored the Rebels 15-8 to send the game into overtime.

However, the Rebels made sure that the Tigers’ rally would not continue. ACCS outscored Centreville 7-6 in the extra session.

Jonathan Ratcliff led ACCS with 13 points and Andrew Merriett finished with seven points. Centreville was led by Haze Greer with a game-high 16 points and James Carroll with 13 points.

ACCS (1-0) plays host to Madison-Ridgeland Academy Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Centreville Academy (no record given) plays at Central Private School Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

St. Aloysius 61, Cathedral 44

NATCHEZ — Braxton Chewning led St. Aloysius with a game-high 19 points as the Flashes pulled away for a 61-44 win over the rival Cathedral Green Wave Tuesday night at the Roy A. Garcia Gymnasium.

Cathedral fought back from a 10-point deficit after one quarter of play to go into halftime down 29-22. But the Flashes ended any hopes of a Green Wave comeback with a 17-10 advantage in the third quarter.

Alvin Brown added 11 points for St. Aloysius. Sam Mosby led the Green Wave with 15 points.

Cathedral (1-3) takes on Block High School today at 6:15 p.m. at the Monterey High School Tournament.

Ferriday 62, Block 46

JONESVILLE — Montrieze Sandidge ended up with a game-high 24 points as the Ferriday High School Trojans defeated the Block High School Bears 62-46 Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Ferriday pulled away from Block thanks to an 18-10 advantage in the second quarter and a 16-11 edge in the third quarter.

Jarrius Johnson chipped in for the Trojans with 12 points. Dexture Jefferson led the Bears with 15 points and Tyreke Harbor added 10 points.

Ferriday (2-3) faces off with Delta Charter School today at 5:15 p.m. at the Tensas High School Tournament. Block (0-5) takes on Cathedral High School today at 6:15 p.m. at the Monterey High School Tournament.
