VIDALIA — The Vidalia Beautification Committee will continue the tradition of lighting up the Miss-Lou with the annual New Year’s Eve firework display on the Mississippi River.
Committee president Sabrina Doré said the group is thrilled to take on its first New Year’s Eve firework show after success on the group’s Fourth of July fireworks event.
“We’re excited,” Doré said.
The show will start at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, giving the children plenty of time to see the show and enjoy their holiday cozied up with their families before bedtime, she said.
The show will last approximately 10 minutes, Doré said, and will be the same caliber as the firework display at October’s Great Mississippi River Balloon Race.
The show, complete with fireworks, barge and permits, costs roughly $12,000 and requires the help and generosity of Miss-Lou businesses and sponsors to put together, Doré said.
As of Tuesday evening, the show is only 50-percent funded, Doré said.
“Any business that would like to be a sponsor can contact the Vidalia Beautification Committee,” she said. “We’d love to have them on board.”
Doré said all sponsorship donations should be submitted by Dec. 26.
