Natchez Bulldogs beat Jefferson County 57-30

NATCHEZ — James Singleton finished with a game-high 19 points and Charles Credit dished out 15 assists as the Natchez High School Bulldogs defeated the Jefferson County High School Tigers 57-30 Thursday night.

Defense was the key factor to Natchez High’s victory in this match-up. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 16-4 in the first quarter and 20-4 in the second quarter for an insurmountable 28-point lead at intermission, 36-8.

“I think we came out the first half playing great defense,” Bulldogs head coach David Haywood said. “We got a couple of steals. We were able to get consecutive stops. Tonight, shots were falling early for us and that gave them some energy on defense.”

The Bulldogs did not let up in the third quarter as they outscored Jefferson County 15-10 for a commanding 51-18 advantage. With mostly bench players on the court for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to outscore them 12-6.

Travon Jackson contributed with nine points and Tyreeq Washington chipped with seven points for the Bulldogs.

Jalen Counsil led the Tigers with 10 points and Jalen Tenner scored nine points.

Jefferson County (no record given) will be on the road next Tuesday when they play at Terry High School at 7:30 p.m. Natchez High (7-1) will be at home next Tuesday when it goes up against Raymond High School at 7:30 p.m.

NATCHEZ — In what turned out to be a mismatch, the Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 55-36 win over the Jefferson County High School Lady Tigers Thursday night.

Natchez High took control of the game early and had its way with Jefferson County on both ends of the court throughout the first half. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-3 advantage after one quarter of play and then proceeded to outscore the Lady Tigers 21-2 in the second quarter for a 36-5 halftime lead.

The third quarter was more competitive, but the Lady Bulldogs still managed a 10-8 edge to up its lead to 33 points, 46-13. With Natchez High head coach ShaRhonda Gipson going to her bench, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 23-9 in the fourth quarter.

Kelsey McNeal led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 12 points and Kya Singleton added 11 points. Akira Doss was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers with 11 points and Iyronica Barnes poured in 10 points.

Jefferson County (no record given) plays at Terry High School next Tuesday at 6 p.m. Natchez High (7-4) hosts Raymond High School at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.

Vidalia boys 66,

Parkview Baptist (La.) 59

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. — Four players for Vidalia High School scored in double figures, led by DeMikal McCoy and RayJay Ransom with 14 points each, as the Vikings defeated the Parkview Baptist School Eagles 66-59 Thursday night at the West Feliciana Tournament.

Neither team was able to pull away from the other through the first three quarters. Parkview Baptist led Vidalia 19-17 at the end of the first quarter, but the Vikings cut the Eagles’ lead to one point at halftime, 32-31. The Eagles increased their lead back up to two points at the end of the third quarter, 47-45.

Then Vidalia responded in a big way by outscoring Parkview Baptist 21-12 in the fourth quarter. Jaquan Wilson added 13 points and Malachi Matthew chipped in with 10 points for the Vikings. Jackson Palumbo led the Eagles with 14 points.

Vidalia (3-6) resumes tournament action today at 5:15 p.m. when it takes on St. Helena College & Career Academy.

Parklane Academy girls 63,

ACCS 26

MCCOMB — Allie Albritton led Parklane Academy with a game-high 12 points and Alexis Tran had 10 points as the Lady Pioneers rolled to a 63-26 win over the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels Thursday night.

Parklane jumped out to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and used a strong second half to pull way. The Lady Pioneers outscored ACCS 20-9 in the third quarter and 18-4 in the fourth quarter.

Shelby Mason led the Lady Rebels with 11 points and Danyel Weir added 10 points.

ACCS (0-8) hosts Brookhaven Academy today at 6 p.m.

Parklane Academy boys 45, ACCS 33

MCCOMB — The Parklane Academy Pioneers dominated the first half and then had to hold off a third-quarter comeback attempt by Adams County Christian School to defeat the Rebels 45-33 Thursday night.

ACCS found itself trailing Parklane 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and 27-12 at halftime. But the Rebels would not go away quietly as they outscored the Pioneers 10-3 in the third quarter to cut the lead to eight points, 30-22.

However, Parklane regained its offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter and outscored the Rebels 15-11 to escape with the 12-points win.

Sterling Yarbrough led the Rebels with eight points and Wes Stockstill had seven points.

ACCS (1-5) plays host to Brookhaven Academy today at 7:30 p.m.

Richwood (La.) girls 60, Wilkinson County 50

FERRIDAY — Deointa Wyatt led Wilkinson County High School with 22 points, but it was not enough as the Lady Wildcats lost to the Richwood (La.) High School Lady Rams 60-50 Thursday night at the Ferriday High School Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Richwood jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one quarter of play and managed to maintain its six-point led until the fourth quarter, when the Lady Rams outscored Wilkinson County 18-14.

Chernecie Smith scored nine points and Asia Clark had six points for the Lady Wildcats.

Wilkinson County (1-7) plays host to rival Amite County High School today at 6 p.m.

Lincoln Prep girls 30, Delta Charter 26

MONROE, La. — Auniyah Rhone led Lincoln Preparatory School with nine points as the Lady Panthers held on for a 30-26 win over the Delta Charter School Lady Storm Thursday night at the Carroll High School Tournament.

In what turned out to be a low-scoring game, Lincoln Prep led Delta Charter 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and maintained its three-point lead at the break, 13-10. The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Storm 12-9 in the third quarter for a 25-19 lead.

That six-point edge for the Lady Panthers turned out to be just enough of one to withstand an attempted fourth-quarter rally by the Lady Storm.

Cloi Cummings led the Lady Storm with nine points and Sydney Watts had eight points.

Delta Charter (6-5) takes on the Lady Bulldogs of tournament host Carroll High School today at 6:15 p.m.

Bastrop boys 58, Delta Charter 33

MONROE, La. — The Bastrop High School Rams used a big second quarter to pull away from Delta Charter School as they defeated the Storm 58-33 Thursday night at the Carroll High School Tournament.

Both teams got off to a slow start and by the time the first quarter was over, Bastrop was only up 10-9. Then the Rams got going on both offense and defense in the second quarter, putting up 21 points while holding the Storm to just four points to go into halftime with a commanding 31-13 lead.

Rykeion Glasper led the Storm with 10 points while Mykel Brooks and Kavarius Whitehead added seven points each.

Delta Charter (no record given) goes up against the Bulldogs of tournament host Carroll High School today at 8:45 p.m.
