NATCHEZ — Services for Thelma Matthews Powers, 92, of Natchez, who died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. George-Bede Ajuruchi officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m.
Visitation will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Mrs. Powers was born on Dec. 13, 1925, in New Orleans, the daughter of Albert Colston and Melinda Lewis Colston.
She attended St. Francis Catholic School and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James F. Powers and James F. Matthews; one son, Donald Eugene Powers; and two sisters, Lucille Hendrix and Edna Williams.
Survivors include six children, Joseph F. Powers and wife, Geneva, of Vinton, La., Elaine Powers of Lake Charles, La., Gwen Young and husband, Larry, Avil Powers and James Matthews Jr., all of Natchez, and Albert Matthews and wife, Deborah, of Houston; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
