ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. — The St. Helena College and Career Academy overcame a late arrival and a shaky first quarter to defeat the Vidalia High School Vikings 67-66 in overtime Friday night at the West Feliciana Tournament.

The turning point of the game was when both Jaquan Wilson and Malachi Matthews fouled out midway through the fourth quarter. That allowed St. Helena to outscore Vidalia 22-13 to send the game into overtime tied at 59-all.

“That hurt a lot,” Vikings head coach Robert Sanders said. The Hawks scored eight points in overtime while the Vikings had seven points.

The game started an hour later than scheduled because St. Helena was late getting to the gymnasium. Vidalia jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Hawks slowly chipped away at the lead over the next two quarters.

Wilson led the Vikings with 18 points while RayJay Ransom had 17 points and DeMikal McCoy added 12 points.
