NATCHEZ — Natchez police officers worked Wednesday evening trying to find the driver of a Ford pickup truck that ran into a house at 401 Oakland Drive at approximately 8 p.m.

Keith Smith said he was in his house when he heard a big noise in the front yard.

“It came through the yard,” Smith said, while standing under an eve of his house during a pouring rain and pointing toward the pickup truck in his front yard. “That’s where it stopped.”

The truck was shy of the house and appeared to have clipped a post on one of the front porches.

Smith said no one in the house was hurt in the incident and the damage to the house was not too severe.

“It has been raining all night,” Smith said.

Police said the driver of the truck fled the scene on foot, and they were working to identify a suspect.

Smith said police told him they believed the truck might have been stolen.
