CENTRAL, La. — Cathedral High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team had several chances to break through, only to come up empty as the Green Wave lost to the Central Private School Rebels 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in an MAIS Division III South, District 4 match.
Central Private scored its first goal nearly midway through the first half and took a 1-0 led into halftime.
“It was a pretty good goal. They’re a much-improved team,” Cathedral head coach Dennis Hogue said. “We made an adjustment (defensively) in the second half. We had some great shots on goal, some great scoring opportunities. They have an athletic goalkeeper who made some big saves.”
The Rebels added two goals in the second half to add more frustration for the Green Wave, which suffered its first loss in district play.
“They had a breakaway and we had some miscommunication on defense and they had an open goal,” Hogue said.
Green Wave goalkeeper Donovan Dear finished with 13 saves.
Cathedral (3-5, 3-1) hosts district foe Brookhaven Academy with the varsity match at 5:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity match.
