VICKSBURG — Kennedy Williams scored two goals, one in each half, while Ty Bertelsen and Joseph Garrity had one goal each as the Cathedral High School Green Wave defeated the Porter’s Chapel Academy Eagles 4-0 Tuesday afternoon in an MAIS Division III South, District 4 match.

Even though head coach Dennis Hogue said he was pleased to get out of town with the win, he added that he was not pleased with the team’s performance.

“We were kind of sloppy. Kind of undisciplined on defense. Our timing was off on our passing. Communication was poor. I don’t think we played great. That’s a better team than what was out there,” Hogue said.

Bertelsen scored at the 19th minute of the first half and Williams scored his first goal of the match at the 29th minute of the first half to give Cathedral a 2-0 halftime lead. Williams scored his second goal at the seventh minute of the second half and Garrity scored at the 30th minute of the second half.

“We had some moments of brilliance. But there were so many opportunities missed because of miscommunication or sloppy passing,” Hogue said.

Green Wave goalkeeper Donovan Dear preserved the shutout with nine saves.

Cathedral (4-6, 4-2) plays host to Laurel Christian School Thursday at 5:30 p.m., which will be followed by the junior varsity match.
