NATCHEZ — One of Natchez’s Bed and Breakfast establishments is now a six-time recipient of the Traveler’s Choice Awards, which are listed each January based on real customer reviews.

Owners Donald McGlynn and Douglas Mauro acquired the Historic Oak Hill Inn in 2004, and it has been showered with praise from visitors all around the world with more than 1,100 reviews on TripAdvisor.

Each guest stays in one of three 1800s style guest rooms and is greeted with gourmet breakfasts, tranquil backyard gardens and fountains, front and back verandas, fully-stocked library and hospitable hosts; It is not difficult to guess why TripAdvisor reviews for 2019 rank Oak Hill Inn the ninth best place to stay in the nation.

Mauro said he and his partner, McGlynn, learned about the award last Wednesday from friends who watched channel 3 WLBT news coverage from Jackson, which named a handful of the 2019 Traveler’s Choice Award recipients.

“We’re one of the 1 percent of B&Bs who received that award, which is a really great honor,” Mauro said. “We’re happy to put Natchez on the map.”

In 2014, Oak Hill was ranked No. 1 nationally and third in the world, Mauro said, and this year was the only Mississippi destination to be included on TripAdvisor’s top 10 list.

One reason, Mauro said, is Oak Hill’s famous breakfast, which is fixed from scratch by his co-host, McGlynn, who is a chef influenced by his culinary experience in New Orleans.

“When he attended school (at Tulane University) he worked at Brennan’s for a while, and you can’t work at Brennan’s and not put out a good breakfast,” Mauro said.

In addition to Oak Hill’s partly isolated, yet convenient, location on South Rankin Street in downtown Natchez, Mauro said he believes the personal touch added from Southern hospitality makes all of the difference for his guests.

“We don’t book online, so people either send us emails or call us,” Mauro said. “We only have three guest rooms, so it’s a small business. It adds a personal touch.”

Mauro said more information regarding Historic Oak Hill Inn and booking details can be found at www.historicoakhill.com, by calling 601-446-2500 or email to oakhillinn@bellsouth.net.
