NATCHEZ — The National Weather Service in Jackson said rain and a cold front expected to move through the state Monday could result in snow accumulation in parts of the state Monday night.

“The best chance of snow is Monday night into early Tuesday morning,” said Janae Elkins, meteorologist with the NWS in Jackson. “There will be some rain, and it could turn into snow late Monday night.”

Elkins said an elevated threat of snow accumulation is possible north of Jackson in Grenada, Cleveland and Bolivar County.

“South of Jackson a limited threat of light snow accumulation is possible, including Natchez and Adams County,” Elkins said.

The Jackson area forecast for Monday calls for a sunny day with highs in the lower 60s with a chance of rain in the evening.

Monday night, however, temperatures will drop into upper 20s with an 80 percent chance of precipitation, turning to snow and light rain after midnight with light snow accumulations possible.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for a slight chance of snow flurries in the morning with highs in the mid 30s and dropping to the lower 20s Tuesday night before warming up to the upper 40s Wednesday.
