VIDALIA — Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a Thursday night shooting that injured a man who officials said was attempting to break into a residence in Vidalia.

“They had a guy break into a trailer, and the guy defended his property,” said David Hedrick, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office chief deputy.

Hedrick said multiple suspects attempted to break into a residence on Ralphs Road and the resident defended himself by shooting.

Hedrick said the homeowner would not face charges in the shooting since it was self-defense.

“There were multiple subjects that attempted to break into a home,” Hedrick said. “One was shot and the others fled.”

The one suspect was hit, Hedrick said, and the other suspects fled.

The gunshot victim was transported to Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, and was still being treated Saturday.

Hedrick said he anticipates charges to be filed after the suspect is released from the hospital and that the incident is still under investigation.
