VIDALIA — Three Vidalia men face charges in connection to a Monday night shooting, Vidalia police officials said.

Vidalia police officers said they responded to a shots fired call at approximately 9 p.m. Monday on Azalea Street where they found bullet holes in a vehicle and spent shell casings in the roadway, indicating more than one gun was involved in the shooting.

“The occupants of the house told officers that two people in a vehicle drove by and shot at them,” Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said. “They described the vehicle as a blue four-door Nissan pickup truck and told officers who the shooters were.”

Vidalia Police investigators executed arrest warrants, Merrill said, and upon further investigation on the scene at the Azalea Street address learned the shootings were the result of an unsatisfactory drug deal.

Police said they found various pieces of drug paraphernalia and .5 grams of marijuana.

Merrill said police arrested Skylar Morace, 18; Porter Goodwin, 24; and Hunter Johnson, 21, all with Vidalia addresses, who each face charges of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Also arrested was Kimberly Cowart, 19, of Vidalia, who faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

“I want to thank the Concordia Parish deputies,” Merrill said, “who assisted by going to the residence, which is out in the parish, where they found the vehicle as described but with bullet holes in it also.”
