NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman involved in a high-speed chase in Lincoln Parish in December has an indictment in Adams County for a felony charge of uttering a forgery as a habitual offender, officials said.

As of Wednesday, Vifran Carter, 46, of Natchez, remained detained in Lincoln Parish with warrants from several agencies, said Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Lt. Cal Green.

Carter was arrested in Lincoln Parish in December after a “routine” traffic stop on I-20 turned into a high-speed chase in excess of 100 mph through three Louisiana parishes, including Bienville, Claiborne and Lincoln.

At the time, Carter already faced charges in Adams County for attempting to use a fake payroll check for approximately $1,900 in November 2014, Green said.

When Carter is released from custody in Louisiana, Green said, Carter could be arraigned in the Sixth District Circuit Court in Adams County and tried as a habitual offender after having been convicted of similar crimes.

Carter was convicted Sept. 13, 2010, Green said, on a felony charge of writing a bad check and sentenced to five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections and was convicted on April 30, 2009, for felony shoplifting and sentenced to another five years.

“I understand that several other parishes have charges pending against her,” Green said. “I remember hearing her name when I first started in law enforcement in 1997. … She has been in and out of law enforcement’s view for quite some time.”
