NATCHEZ — Samuel Thomas recently announced that he is running for Adams County tax collector in the upcoming election.

“I’ve always wanted to make a difference in our community,” Thomas said. “We need a change in Adams County, and I would like to be a part of that change. I can’t sit back and complain about anything if I’m not going to do anything to change it.”

Thomas said now is the time for a new generation of leaders.

“Time is constantly changing and we have to catch up with time,” Thomas said. “We can’t live in 2020 and still be using old methods and technology from 1980.”

Thomas said people should vote for him because he is hard-working, dedicated, trustworthy and fair to all citizens.

“I was born here in Natchez. Natchez is my home and no matter where in the world I’ve been, Natchez was always in my heart and always will be,” Thomas said.  “I’ve been serving the public since I was eight years old as a paperboy for The Natchez Democrat.

Thomas said he is a proud Army veteran who has served his country honorably. He has also worked in various capacities including as a manager in fast food restaurants and as a security officer for Natchez-Adams School District.

“I have also worked in the tax collector’s office serving the people of Adams County. I’m familiar with collecting property taxes, managing local revenue and serving as an agent for many other state departments,” Thomas said.” Let me be the link between you and the diverse government programs that affect you.”

Thomas said his plans are to enforce the highest level of customer service and provide proper training for the workers. He said he also plans to update equipment to make it easier to pay your fees.

“So let your voice be heard and vote for someone who cares. Vote for change. Vote Samuel “Sambo” Thomas and let me be that change that we need,” Thomas said.
