FERRIDAY — After missing four games last week because of the weather, Delta Charter School’s varsity softball team played their first game of the season Monday afternoon at home.

The Lady Storm came out fast and ready to play, getting way up early in the game. They held an 8-0 lead after the second inning.

The Block High School Lady Bears scored three runs in the third inning, however, to make the score 8-3, but were shutout for the rest of the game.

Delta Charter scored five more runs and played excellent defense along with a superb pitching performance by Jaden Boydstun in a 13-3 win in five innings.

“I’m tickled to get the first win of the season,” said Lady Storm head coach Jeannie Beach after the game. “We still have a lot to learn and will continue to grow. I’m proud of the way they came out hitting and glad to see some aggressive base running.”

Junior catcher Skylar Hawley hit the ball hard twice. In the bottom of the first, she helped get the scoring started by hitting a shot to right field for an RBI double. She also singled in the fourth and with two walks, reaching base all four trips to the plate.

In the field Hawley ran down a runner trying to sneak home, helping to stop a rally and was bowled over at home plate holding onto the ball to end the inning with a double play.

“The impact sent a shock through my body, and I chipped a tooth,” Hawley said.

Shantise Carter had a triple for Block.  The winning pitcher was Jayden Boydstun while Tadravia Johnson got the loss.
