NATCHITOCHES, La. — St. Mary’s High School scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning as the Lady Tigers defeated the Block High School Lady Bears 18-2 in three innings Tuesday afternoon in the LHSAA District 3-1A opener for both teams.
It was Block’s first game since last Monday and just its second game of the season after having several of its games over the last two weeks rained out. And having to travel such a long distance for its district opener did not help the Lady Bears.
The Lady Tigers trailed 1-0 before taking the lead for good with a five-run rally in the bottom of the first inning. After the Lady Bears scored a run in the top of the second inning, St. Mary’s scored three runs in the bottom of the second before putting up its 10-spot to end the game early. Block was held to just two hits in the game.
Block (0-2, 0-1) plays at Epps High School Friday at 4 p.m.
Vidalia 12, Harrisonburg 8 (Mon.)
HARRISONBURG, La. — Shelbi Cross went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in as the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings rallied late to defeat the Harrisonburg High School Lady Bulldogs 12-8 Monday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon, but in an effort to get the game in ahead of the cold weather, the game was moved up a day.
Vidalia scored three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Harrisonburg tied the game in the bottom of the third. And with this being the season-opener for both teams, there would be some struggles on the mound.
And that was the case in the fourth inning as both Vidalia and Harrisonburg scored four runs to make it a 7-7 game. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead with one run in the bottom of the fifth, only to see the Lady Vikings put up five runs in the top of the seventh.
Hannah Harveston earned the win for Vidalia. Tiffany Brewer went 5-for-5 while Caley Weatherly was 4-for-5 and Skylar Adams had a double for the Lady Vikings.
Vidalia (1-0) will travel to Bastrop, La. to take on Beekman Charter School at 4 p.m. Thursday in its LHSAA District 2-2A. The varsity game will be followed by the junior varsity game.
