NATCHEZ — Nolan Owens pitched three solid innings and the Adams County Christian School Rebels used two big innings at the plate to defeat the Wilkinson County Christian School Rams 17-5 in four innings Thursday afternoon.

This game was originally scheduled for next Tuesday, but was moved up five days after ACCS had already had its home game against River Oaks School.

WCCA got off to a good start against Owens, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Rebels would answer in a big way with a seven-run rally in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.

Owens settled down and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound. He allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out two and walked two.

The Rebels scored one run in the bottom of the second to go up 8-2 before the Rams tried to get back in the game after putting up three runs in the top of the fourth to trail 8-5. Yet again ACCS responded, this time scoring nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game early.

Tripp Cotten led the Rebels’ 11-hit attack by going 2-for-2 with a triple. Rhet McDonald went 2-for-3 and Jack Whitehead had a double. Thomas Vannoy was the lone bright spot for the Rams at the plate as he went 2-for-3. They were held to just four hits. R.J. Fisher was the losing pitcher.

ACCS (3-1) plays host to the Louisiana Renegades travel team on Tuesday, March 12 at 5 p.m. Then it’s on to the Vidalia Invitational Tournament for the Rebels later in the week, starting with a match-up with host Vidalia High School on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
