Freddie Gene Harris

NATCHEZ— Services for Freddie Gene Harris, 75, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Merit Health Natchez, will 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Colenburg officiating.        
Burial will follow at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Visitation will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Harris was born on Feb. 7, 1944, in Natchez, the son of Alma McNealy Harris and Walter Louis Harris.
He was a 1962 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at Mississippi Valley State University.  Freddie was a retired teacher and supervisor from Fidelity Tire and Grand Gulf Nuclear Plants.  He was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church where he served as a church steward, trustee board and finance committee member. He was also member of the Bible study group, Sunday school, the MVSU Alumni Association and Natchez SVT “Era” School Reunion Committee.  Harris enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching soap operas, game shows, his favorite sport team, the 49ers, and spending time with his family and friends.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Melvia Strongfellow; and brother-in-law, James Davis.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Geraldine Davis Harris; five sons, Freddie Anthony Williams, Corey Harris and wife, Christie, Fredrick Harris, Christopher Harris and wife, Sheena, and Michael Harris and wife, Darice; two brothers, Walter Harris Jr. and McClinton Harris; two sisters, Irma Woods and husband, Willie, and Hattie Brice and husband, John; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Keelan, Madison, Maalik, Jaiden, Christian, Jacoby, Mason, Ayden and Christopher, Jr.; goddaughter, Ky’aira Todd; and other relatives and friends.
