NATCHEZ — A Texas man was being held in the Adams County Jail Thursday on a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they served a warrant on him for other unrelated charges that occurred in Midland, Texas.

Jacob Lewis, 36, of Midland, was being held on $20,000 bond, said Adams County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cal Green.

“Deputies made contact with him outside of (a local department) store and knew he had active felony warrants,” Green said. “They made contact with him. He confirmed his name and he had an arrest warrant out of Midland, Texas. As they were getting him out of the car, they spied marijuana in a clear bag in a seat in front of him along with a digital scale.”

Green said the marijuana was approximately 3-and-a-half ounces and because of the amount and possession of digital scales, deputies charged Lewis with intent to sell.

Green said Lewis is wanted in Texas on a felony charge of domestic assault by choking.

“He is going to be extradited to Texas as soon as we are done with him here,” Green said.

Lewis was being held on a $15,000 bond on possession with intent to distribute, Green said, and $5,000 bond on a possession of paraphernalia charge.

“If he can make bond with us,” Green said, “Texas can come and get him. In a case like that, until he has satisfied everything here, we won’t let him go to another state until we are done.”
