Mangham upsets Lady Vikings

VIDALIA — With three starters out with injuries, the chances of Vidalia High School upsetting Mangham High School were even slimmer than they were had the Lady Vikings been completely healthy.

Anna Myers made sure a short-handed Vidalia team would not have that opportunity as she threw a no-hitter to lead the defending LHSAA Class 2A state champion Lady Dragons to an 11-0 win over the Lady Vikings in five innings in a District 2-2A game.

Mangham belted out 13 hits, had four multiple hitters and took advantage of three Vidalia errors. The Lady Dragons scored seven runs in the top of the second inning and added two runs each in the top of the third and fourth inning.

The Lady Vikings, on the other hand, could not get a single batter to get on base. In addition to her no-hitter, Myers didn’t walk any batters and the Lady Dragons did not commit a single error. Vidalia was without Hannah Harveston, Tiffany Brewer, and Lexi Maynard.

Vidalia (3-5, 1-2) will play at the Sulphur High School Tournament today at 3:45 p.m. against Grand Lake High School out of Lake Charles, La.

Forest 4, Monterey 1

FOREST, La. — Winning pitcher Brooke Ross helped her cause by going 2-for-3 with a double as the Forest High School Lady Bulldogs defeated the Monterey High School Lady Wolves 4-1 Thursday afternoon.

Both teams had eight hits in the game, but Forest was more opportunistic than Monterey was — especially in the first two innings. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning and added another run in the bottom of the second.

Despite being charged with the loss, Avery Cupit settled down after giving up those three early runs and eventually pitched four straight scoreless innings. Unfortunately, Ross was up to the challenge as she kept the Lady Wolves off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth inning.

Andy Gray went 3-for-3 with a double and Hannah Hitt had a double for the Lady Wolves. McKenzie Ellerbe had a double for the Lady Bulldogs.

Monterey (1-3) will play two games today at the Grace Christian Tournament in Alexandria, La. The Lady Wolves will take on Northside Christian School at 3 p.m. and Castor High School at 5 p.m.

Ouachita Christian at Delta Charter rained out

Those games will now be played on Monday, April 8 with the varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the JV game.

Delta Charter returns to action Friday at 7:45 p.m. when it takes on Oakdale High School at the Sulphur (La.) High School Tournament. The Lady Storm will then have two games at that tournament on Saturday, first against Oberlin High School at 10:30 a.m. and then versus Lake Arthur High School at 2:30 p.m.
