NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office officials said they have captured the suspect wanted in the Jan. 22 murder of Natchez folk artist James Henry Williams.
“Arthur Moore is in custody,” Patten said Friday afternoon.
ACSO Special Operations Group deputies captured Moore late Friday afternoon inside the Natchez city limits in a residence at No. 9 Oscar St., Patten said.
Deputies also arrested Gerald Quincel Hoskins, 51, of 1824 John West Road, Dallas, Texas, on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder, Patten said.
Moore had been at large since the Jan. 22 murder of Williams.
“The victim’s brother and the suspect (another person) were apparently arguing,” Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said at the time. “They were in a heated argument over something and it escalated to the suspect shooting the victim.”
Natchez police had been searching for Moore, 43, of last known address 144 N. Shields Lane No. A8, since the incident and had enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshal Service and the National Crime Information Center.
Patten said the arrest came from a tip and that once Moore is processed into the Adams County Jail he will be turned over to the Natchez Police Department.
“Our guys have been working diligently on this case since the night it happened,” Patten said. “We put a lot of work into the city and the county because Natchez is our city, too. We worked with the NPD and the U.S. Marshals and when the opening came, our guys went in and executed the operation flawlessly. This is something they have done time and time again. I commend them for giving 100 percent in every operation they execute.”
