FERRIDAY — Services for Ernestine E. “Ernie” Martin, 86, of Ferriday, who died peacefully surrounded by her family, Monday, March 25, 2019, at her residence, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Roger Myers officiating and a special message given by her sister, Barbara Starr.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mrs. Martin was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Good Pine, La., the daughter of Jack Jackson and Launa Scruggs.
She was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. Everyone who met Ernie knew that her family and God was the main focus in her life. Her family always knew they could count on her “direct line” when prayer was needed. Her family considered her their “rock.”
Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. “Nub” Martin; her parents; two daughters, Diane Buckles and Kathy Freeman; and two brothers, Mike Cotton and David Scruggs.
Survivors include one son, Jackie Martin and wife, Angie, of Ferriday; two daughters, Reneé Ferguson and husband, Randy, of Rogers, Ark., and Susie Dean of LaPlace, La.; 11 grandchildren, Cindy Coleman, Misty Brumfield, Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Erica Ferguson, Greg Ferguson, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Paul Houghton, Tim Houghton and Kristy Whitehead; three sisters, Dorothy Swaggart and Barbara Starr of Ferriday and Jean Duncan of Vidalia; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Greg Ferguson, Hunter Martin, Jody Starr and Matt Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rayford Buckles, Clif Starr, Randy Ferguson, Russell Huber Jr. and Steve Dean.
The family extends a special thanks to Penny Cain, RN and Erika Wilks of Encompass Hospice and the many family members for their special care.
Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
