VIDALIA — Vidalia High School’s varsity baseball team was set to host Peabody High School out of Alexandria, La. early Saturday afternoon — as in first pitch at 12 p.m.
Instead, the game between the Vikings and the Warhorses ended up being canceled and will not be rescheduled with the regular season winding down.
“The field was not in that good of shape and there was a chance of rain,” Vidalia head coach Michael Norris. “And their (head) coach (Lamont Piper) didn’t want to travel two hours and find out the game was cancelled.”
Vidalia (12-8) takes on Mangham High School in a pivotal LHSAA District 2-2A series for both teams this week. The first game of the three-game series will be on Tuesday, April 9 with varsity game at 6 p.m. That follows the junior varsity game, which gets under way at 4 p.m.
The Vikings are currently in third place in the district standings at 4-2 while Mangham and Beekman Charter School had a key district series last week with first place at stake.
