NATCHEZ — The severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes that led to storm damage in Vicksburg Saturday afternoon not only led to all schools and offices in the Vicksburg-Warren County School District being closed on Monday, but it forced the cancellation of Natchez High School’s varsity softball games against Vicksburg High School.
Natchez High was scheduled to host Vicksburg on Monday afternoon and then travel to Vicksburg to take on the Missy Gators Tuesday afternoon, but neither of those games will take place.
Next up for the 6-4 Lady Bulldogs, who finished second in MHSAA Region 6-5A, will be the first round of the Class 5A South State Playoffs later this week against the No. 3 seed from Region 8-5A.
Also, Natchez High’s junior varsity and varsity baseball home games against Jefferson County High School that were to have taken place Tuesday night have been cancelled, Bulldogs head coach Dan Smith said late Monday morning.
Which means that Senior Night will now be this Friday when Natchez High, the Region 6-5A No. 2 seed, plays host to Region 8-5A No. 3 seed Stone County High School at 6 p.m. at Chester Willis Field in Game 1 of this MHSAA Class 5A South State Playoffs first-round series.
Game 2 will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stone County. Game 3, if necessary, will be back at Chester Willis Field with Natchez High hosting Stone County on Monday, April 22, at 6 p.m.
