HOLDEN, La. — The Monterey High School Lady Wolves went on another long road trip in the 2019 LHSAA Class B Playoffs, this time to eastern Livingston Parish to take on the Holden High School Lady Rockets.

And that is where No. 17 seed Monterey’s season came to an end as the Lady Wolves lost to No. 1 seed and two-time defending Class B state champion Holden 14-1 in five innings Tuesday afternoon.

“They had something like 12 hits. Everything we threw, they hit it,” Monterey head coach Cary Shivley said. “They just hit the ball. They hit two home runs.”

On the other hand, the Lady Wolves had a tough time getting runners on base against winning pitcher Olivia Lackie. She held them to just two base hits. Monterey’s defense also committed two errors.

Holden (26-5) advanced to the quarterfinals and will host No. 8 seed Stanley High School at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Stanley got by No. 9 seed Oak Hill High School 4-1 Tuesday afternoon.

Monterey finished its 2019 season with an overall record of 8-12.
