Spring football underway
NATCHEZ — Spring football practice for local varsity high school football teams is just getting started this week while two area teams in MHSAA Region 7-3A started up earlier this month.
2018 MAIS Class AAA state champion Adams County Christian School, Cathedral High School, and Natchez High School each got under way on Tuesday. In addition to having already having practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, ACCS will have practice today and Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., head coach David King said.
King said that the Rebels will practice next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday and the following week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, each day at the aforementioned times. That will lead up to their spring game at Oak Forest Academy on Thursday, May 9 at 5 p.m.
Natchez High School head coach Roy Rigsby said that the Bulldogs will have practice every day of the week — Tuesday through Friday this week and Monday through Friday after that — from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
The MHSAA Class 5A Bulldogs will have their spring game on Thursday, May 9 at Alcorn State University against Port Gibson High School at 5:30 p.m. and against Provine High School at 7:30 p.m.
Cathedral High School had practice this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, head coach Chuck Darbonne said. He also said that the usual week of practice will be Monday through Thursday, but at different times because of the school schedule.

Jefferson County High School started its spring practice on April 1. Tigers head coach James Herrington said that they have practice each Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Tigers’ spring game will be on Thursday, May 9 at Alcorn State against Mendenhall High School at 4:30 p.m. and against Vicksburg High School at 7:30 p.m. Herrington added that each game will consist of 20 plays on offense and 20 plays on defense.
