NATCHEZ — The May 27 death of an inmate in the Adams County Correctional Center is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, Adams County Coroner James Lee said.

Lee said he was called to the correctional facility at approximately 12:15 p.m. May 27 and arrived to find inmate Juan Carrillo Carreon, 35, deceased in the infirmary.

“They were making rounds and found him in the bunk and tried to administer CPR,” Lee said. “They got him to the infirmary and tried to intubate him and called an ambulance, but he died.”

Lee said he saw no obvious signs of trauma and the inmate had only minor incidents in his medical history.

“The cause of death was inconclusive,” Lee said. “From my findings, everything looks like a drug overdose.”

Lee said he sent Carreon’s body to the state crime lab in Jackson for an autopsy and a toxicology report, and he also ordered a toxicology report from an independent laboratory.

Lee said he expects the results of the independent laboratory’s toxicology reports to be completed next week.

A spokesperson for the Adams County Correctional Center declined to comment for this story.
