Casting agents for “Breaking News in Yuba County,” a movie being filmed in Natchez are in need of people to serve as extras.

Extras are people who populate the background in scenes for movies.

The casting company is desirous of hiring people from Mississippi because producers get a tax break on salaries paid to Mississippians.

Casting agents said they need some 650 people of all ages, races, shapes and sizes, to help fill the extra roles in scenes being shot mostly in Natchez and Jackson every day through mid-July.

That is a lot of people.

Casting agents said they prefer to use local residents but will have to bring people in if they can’t get enough people from the local area.

The commitment for extras is to be available for at least one full day and pay is $64 for an eight-hour day, regardless of whether the production keeps you four or five hours, casting agents said.

If an extra is used in a featured extra role, the pay is upped to $112 per day.

If you can commit at least one day between now and mid-July, we encourage you to sign up to be an extra.

The film industry is growing in Natchez and having people in our area available to fill in as extras is benefit for both producers and residents.
