VIDALIA — Cornerstone Church is hosting its fourth annual Rejuvenate Women’s Gathering this month and this year’s event is bigger and better than ever, the organizer said.

“God laid it on my heart that women all around me were — and still are — overwhelmed with all that is on their plate,” said Calley Reed the event’s organizer. “There is a lot of depression, a lot of anxiety in women, and it just felt like God laid it on my heart that we needed to as a church form an outreach for ladies in our community.”

Reed said she spoke to other friends in her church who felt the same way and they decided to put together a casual event that was beyond an outreach just for the church but would encourage women, no matter what denomination or church they are involved in to out and feel pampered and loved.

“We put some of our ideas together,” Reed said, “and that was how it was formed, and we ended up deciding to do it every June — every Monday night in June.”

This year’s event kicked off Monday, June 3.

“This year we have a lot of pre stuff going on at 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. (Mondays),” Reed said. “We’re being super cheesy, and we are calling it the Pamper Parlor and when ladies come in they can get a little 2-minute massage and they can get bedazzled. We’re jokingly calling it ‘Bedazzled.’ We just have a little area where women can come in and there is like a photo booth, and they can just have fun before the services kick off at 6:30 p.m.”

This year’s events kicked off Monday, June 3, with guest speaker Jennifer Maggio of The Life of a Single Mom Ministries in Baton Rouge. Maggio is originally from Ferriday.

“She helps churches start ministries to single moms,” Reed said, “and she was our speaker the first week.”

The events will continue each Monday through the month with Monday’s speaker being Rebecca Caldwell who has started a local ministry called The Battleground that incorporates preaching with health information.

Reed will be the speaker on June 17 and Shivon Woodard, who is over student ministries at Christ Church in West Monroe, Louisiana, will be the event’s final speaker on June 24.

After the final program on June 24 the group will hold an after party, Reed said.

“We have tents that we set up outside,” Reed said. “We have food and music and we just have a place where ladies can hang out and fellowship because we have ladies from all over that come in so we try to make that last night like a hangout at the end there.”

Reed said services start at 6:30 p.m. but the doors do open at 6 p.m. and services end approximately 8:30 p.m.

“We have giveaways every night,” Reed said. “Lots of local businesses donate baskets and different things like that so we have lots of door prizes and stuff for them, too. Each year it has grown more and more, and we kind of have a packed house now. We don’t know what it might look like next year. We might have to find another location.”

Cornerstone Church is non-denominational, and Reed’s husband, The Rev. Daniel “Danny” Reed is the pastor. Calley Reed also is the church’s worship leader.

Cornerstone Church is located at 166 Cornerstone Drive, Vidalia.

“You turn between (the former) Nikki’s restaurant and the Shell station in Vidalia on to Cedar Street,” Calley Reed said, “and if you follow that road you will come to the signs that will lead you here.”

The events are free and open to people 13 and older.
