Fishing hole about to go nationwide

When it comes to fishing, some anglers like to keep secrets, especially when it comes to revealing their favorite fishing spots.
Beginning at noon June 22, one of the area’s biggest secrets will be out — Concordia Parish is not just an excellent place to fish, it is also an excellent place to live, raise a family and experience all that Central Louisiana has to offer.
For six weeks, CBS Sports Network will broadcast the 2019 General Tire World Fishing Championship, which was filmed on Lake St. John in Concordia Parish.
Twelve of the nation’s top fishermen spent a week in April and March competing for the world title on Lake St. John. Major League Fishing and the CBS Sports Network were there to document some of the best fishing in the world.
This was only the third trip for Major League Fishing to Louisiana and the second trip to the waters surrounding Vidalia and Natchez when they came for the 2018 Challenge Cup.
The decision to return to the area one year later says a lot for Concordia Parish and the surrounding area.
During the week-long tournament, the anglers, their sponsors and film crews filled hotel rooms and dined at local restaurants — allowing the area businesses to reel in additional dollars.
More importantly, the televised broadcast provides exposure.
The six installments will not just be a big advertisement for fishing. They will also be a big opportunity to show the rest of the nation all that Concordia Parish has to offer.
As part of the agreement with Major League Fishing, Vidalia is being given thousands of dollars in advertising television spots to promote not just fishing, but also the quality of life that sometimes seems like the best-kept secret in the area — a secret that needs to be revealed for the nation to see.
