NATCHEZ — The Natchez-Adams Recreation Commission is looking for a pool manager to manage the daily operations of the Natchez Community Swimming, a commission member said.

Meanwhile, the commission is still negotiating with the Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi to regain management of the pool, commission members said.

The commission has appointed Fay Minor as the Adams County recreation director, said commission attorney Scott Slover, and Minor is currently running the pool in addition to her other duties.

“We decided at the last meeting to get somebody in there to set the lifeguard schedules to oversee the lifeguards and kind of watch the office space and the pool,” Slover said. “That way, Fay will be freed up to do some of the other things that she is trying to do — get grant applications and run the programs.”

Commission Chairman Jimmy Ware said the board has some prospects to fill the pool manager’s position that requires lifeguard certification.

“The only thing about it is, even the ones who say they are qualified,” Ware said, “they either let their lifeguard certification expire or they have not renewed them. That’s the hold up there. They got to have the lifeguard certification.”

In the meantime, one of the pool employees, Ware said, has been appointed to oversee the office at the pool to help Minor with the pool operations.

Last month, the Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi canceled its contract to manage the pool after commission members failed to renew the contract that had expired in March.

Commission members agreed to hire Minor as the recreation director and to manage the pool, which opened a week after the YMCA canceled the contract.

Commission members are in the process of working up new terms of a contract to present to the YMCA, Slover said.

Anyone interested in applying for the pool manager’s position can contact Minor at the Community Swimming Pool or by calling 601-442-2431.
