City leaders interview for new IT director

NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez is in the process of hiring Director of Network Administration and Infrastructure.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met behind closed doors in executive session during a special-called meeting Wednesday morning to interview candidates.

“The individual will be responsible for technology leadership, vision and strategic planning for the city,” a job advertisement of the position states. “The Director will oversee the administration of a multi-platform computing, telecommunications, networking and information technology system; provide IT strategic planning and work with other departments to enhance business processes; review contracts for systems, applications or projects; and coordinate IT education to support employees across the City.”

Adams County Board of Supervisors Attorney Scott Slover, who was filling in as the board’s attorney in the absence of City Attorney Robert Latham, said if the board made a hire in executive session, it would not be made public until a later date after all the candidates had been notified.

In other actions at Wednesday’s special-called meeting, the Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen unanimously approved, with aldermen Benjamin Davis and Billie Joe Frazier absent:

  • Appointed Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell as the delegate to attend the June 24-26 Mississippi Municipal League Conference in Biloxi.
  • Approved pay estimate No. 10 to the Natchez Railroad for a grade safety improvement program in the amount of $842,537.05 from a federal TIGER grant and the local match of $280,845.68 paid by Natchez Railway for a total of $1,123,382.73. The city is the grant administrator for the $10 million federal grant for the Natchez Railway to make repairs to and extend a rail line from Brookhaven to the Natchez Port. The Natchez Railway is paying the matching portion of 25%, said James Johnston community development director.
  • Approved an agreement to allow the Mississippi Development Authority to continue to have offices in the Natchez Visitor and Reception Center.
