FERRIDAY— Services for Herman “Knox Squirrely” Montgomery, 89, of Ferriday, who died at his residence, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 2222 Hwy 65 in Ferriday.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the directions of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Montgomery was born in Foules, La., son of Emmett and Josephine Hall Montgomery.
He was a retired custodian for Concordia Parish School System and a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Montgomery was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Montgomery; his parents; one son, Herman Montgomery Jr.; and two brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Johnson and husband, the Rev. Charles Johnson, of Clayton; one stepson, Mitchell Nolan of Lake Charles, La.; two nephews he raised as his own, Willie Chase and his wife, Katisha, of Atlanta and James Chase of Fontana, Calif.; one sister, Jessie Neal and husband, Henry Sr., who was his good friend, of Clayton; seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; a special friend, Mary Martin of Clayton; and a special granddaughter, Glenda Montgomery and husband, Demontrica, of Ferriday.
