NATCHEZ — Rita Bernard-Brooks announces her run as a Democratic candidate for the Adams County District 4 Supervisor position.
Bernard-Brooks is a native of Natchez and Adams County and a product of the Natchez Public Schools. She is a Christian and member of Living Word Worship Center. She is the daughter of Josephine Bernard-Woodfork and Norman Woodfork and is the oldest of four siblings.
“I am proud mother of four children and grandmother of four grandchildren whom I love immensely,” Bernard-Brooks said.
“An advocate for continuous education and life-long learning, my long-term educational goal is to pursue a doctorate in workforce education leadership, higher education or public administration,” Bernard-Brooks said.
She is a graduate of Jackson State and Alcorn State University and has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, a master of science degree in guidance education, and and a master iof science degree in workforce education leadership.
“Although presently retired, my work history consists of diverse job experiences in both the public and private sectors; Some of these positions range from entrepreneurship to corporation, certified law enforcement to academics at the secondary and collegiate level,” Bernard-Brooks said. “My past combined career opportunities culminate a total of more than 20 years of professional work experience.”
Bernard-Brooks said she is running for Natchez Adams County District 4 Supervisor primarily because we are in dire need of “CHANGE!” in this district, and our community as a whole.
“Moreover, I meet the qualifications as required by the statues for the State of Mississippi. As a citizen and taxpayer, I have a vested interest in the future of Natchez Adams County.”
“I am very concerned about the times ahead for continued growth and prosperity; and, I sincerely want to be an integral part of the solutions to our problems, rather than a nemesis. Furthermore, I have the aptitude and willingness to address difficult task and assignments to properly supervise in the district,” Bernard-Brooks said. “I possess the knowledge, ability, communication and workforce skills needed to be an effective leader as well. I’m also amenable to learning/tackling any other duties and responsibilities associated with improving quality of life for all of Adams County’ citizens.”
“Additionally, I represent the ‘CHANGE!’ for the turbulent times that we are experiencing and witnessing today. Major issues facing our community are mismanagement of resources and revenue, poor economy, crumbling infrastructure, limited or no road maintenance, decline in population and property values, crime explosion and overall moral decay, job losses, no industry and readiness of workforce skills, insufficient career opportunities, lack of educational advancement, school improvements, and recreation. We need better collaboration, communication, and cohesiveness among our elected officials to alleviate of some of these deplorable conditions. As citizens and voters, we must also unite, plan, and better prepare for the future of our next generation.”
As Supervisor of District 4, I will support and promote the following:
S School Improvement & Educational Advancement
U Uniform & Unanimous Collaboration & Communication Among Elected Officials

E Enhanced Employment & Career Opportunities
