WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County High School head football coach Kenneth Brown will be coaching his 39th season of football this fall.

Brown said this year will be his eighth year as head football coach at WCHS and he has a lot of work to do to replace 18 seniors he lost, including four seniors that will play junior college football this fall.

“We lost Terell Coleman and Trilin Myles who got scholarships to Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead. Khalil Ford will play at Southwest Mississippi Junior College in Summit and Tamarion Neeley got a scholarship to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston,” Brown said.

Stepping up in class this year are eight seniors and eight juniors, Brown said, the other, approximately 25 players will be sophomores and freshmen that the coaching staff will have to search through to fill the positions left vacant by four players who were good enough to ink college scholarships.

“To fill these positions is going to be hard,” Brown said. “We need a running back a linebacker, a wide receiver, a cornerback and a defensive and offensive tackle. It’s hard to say right now who will start. We may know after next week.”

Brown said the offensive and defensive line is going to miss Ford, who played both offensive and defensive tackle.

“Right now we are in shorts and shirts, lifting weights and running conditioning drills,” Brown said. “We are running 40-yard sprints, but not timing them yet. We are just trying to get them in shape for the first game, Aug. 23.”
