NATCHEZ — The Men of the AMB Association teamed up with the Salvation Army on Saturday to make a simple request — for the community to help them “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies.
The community responded to the challenge and more than met the request.
Organizers of the Men’s groups of the AMB Association of Adams County, under the leadership of the Rev. Melvin White of Pilgrim Baptist Church, spent Saturday in the parking lot of the Natchez Walmart to collect supplies.
Parents, teachers and citizens of all age groups donated supplies, including pencils, notebooks, Crayons and glue.
“I am amazed at the outpouring of the community,” said Larry Woods Sr., president of the Men’s Division Ministry of the AMB Association. “The supplies will be distributed equally to all of the schools (public, private and parochial).”
Members of the AMB Association of Adams County spend Monday morning sorting through the supplies and laying them out in the Fellowship Hall of Pilgrim Baptist Chruch to be distributed to the schools in Adams County.
Woods said representatives of the schools would come to the church to collect the supplies that were donated in response to the list of items the schools provided and were posted inside Walmart on Saturday.
The group’s goal was to fill a school bus with supplies and they succeeded, Woods said.
The AMB Association is a combined group of 40-plus churches in Adams County. The AMB Association Men’s Ministry is a combination of deacon’s, laymen and members from those combined churches working together for unity to make a difference in our community.
