VIDALIA — Plans to completely renovate the courtroom of the Concordia Parish Courthouse may come to fruition in the next month, police jury members said.

During Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting, the Concordia Parish Police Jury unanimously agreed to award a construction bid for the courtroom to Wilmar Construction Company for $130,500, pending approval from state officials.

Concordia Parish Police Jury Secretary and Treasurer Sandi Burley said the renovation is the final phase of a nearly $400,000 renovation split into two parts, the majority of which is funded by a capital outlay grant for approximately $305,000.

The first phase of the project, an ADA lift, had been finished in September and the last phase consists of replacing the seating and upgrading the security systems and lighting in the courtroom, Burley said.

Construction is expected to start Oct. 1 and be completed 120 days after the starting date, Burley said.

Jury President Jimmy Wilkinson said the jury is making plans to use their meeting room and may seek permission from the Vidalia Board of Aldermen to utilize their council chambers for court proceedings while the renovation is ongoing.
