FERRIDAY — Face the music this weekend at the Delta Music Museum and Arcade Theatre in Ferriday with live music performed by country music artist Hannah Belle.
Belle will be at the Arcade Theatre at 7 p.m. Saturday and doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 per person and children under 5 years old attend free.
A native of Red Lick near Fayette, Belle delivers a soulful sound and self-composed music as she often tours the delta near her hometown, said museum director Linda Gardner.
“She is awesome and writes a lot of her own music,” Gardner said. “… I hope everyone will come out and support one of our local artists.”
The Delta Music Museum, operated by the Office of the Secretary of State Museum Division, is a long time celebrator of the musical heritage in the Mississippi Delta and is the only museum of its kind on the Mississippi Blues Trail, Gardner said.
The museum showcases 27 different artists, Gardner said — including the three famous cousins native to Ferriday, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart.
Coming up on Nov. 2, two more will be inducted to the Delta Music Museum’s Hall of Fame, Gardner said, including William Haney, owner of Haney’s Big House and Hezekiah Early, the famous drummer and harmonica player.
“All of our hall of famers have to have ties to the delta region and have to be widely known outside of our area,” Gardner said. “… A lot of our blues artists have a very wide reach around the world.”
Gardner said the museum’s doors are open to the public every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. while group tours may be accommodated by appointment on Monday or Tuesday by calling 318-757-4297.
