GALLMAN — The Cathedral High School Green Wave had an up-and-down showing at the Copiah Academy Jamboree late Friday afternoon against some good competition.

In its first game, Cathedral played to a 7-7 tie with the MHSAA Class 4A Richland High School Rangers. JT Taylor threw a touchdown pass of about 50 yards to Ben White for the Green Wave’s lone touchdown.

The MAIS Class 4A Green Wave fared well against Class 5A and host Copiah Academy in its second game, but the Colonels prevailed 20-13. Taylor scored on a 20-yard run and Hollis Lees connected with Jalen Moore on a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Cathedral head coach Chuck Darbonne said there were some areas that stood out the most.

“Offensive line. We blocked really well. Defensively, it was a team effort,” Darbonne said.

And there was one part of the offense that Darbonne said he was most pleased with — the passing game.

“We threw it and caught it well, which is something we’ve improved on from the past. And that was in both games,” Darbonne said.

However, there were some areas in which he said still need to get better — tackling on defense, pass protection, and special teams.

For the most part, Darbonne was “very enthusiastic” about how the Green Wave worked as a group.

“They had a lot of energy. Good leadership. The stuff we made mistakes on are correctable. We’re looking forward to next week,” Darbonne said.
