VIDALIA — A Natchez man charged with multiple sex crimes against juveniles was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Michael Adam Bumgarner, 42, of 28 Alexander Road in Natchez had been convicted last month of sexual battery on a female teen from an incident in 2009, said Concordia Parish Assistant District Attorney Joey Boothe.

Reportedly, once one victim came forward and reported sex crimes by Bumgarner, others followed.

At least two other girls reported sexual crimes involving Bumgarner, Boothe said.

One of the assaults allegedly occurred in 2004 with a victim who was 9-years-old at the time of the incident, Boothe said, adding her case would be prosecuted at a later date.

Louisiana law states that sexual battery of a child younger than 13 is punishable by anywhere from 25 to 99 years in prison while at least 25 years of the sentence should be served without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.

Adams County District Attorney Ronnie Harper said another case against Bumgarner in Adams County was not prosecuted after the victim’s family moved out of town and didn’t respond to a summons for court.

The victim was under the age of 16 when the fondling incident allegedly took place in 2015, Harper said.

Boothe said Bumgarner received the maximum sentence Wednesday for a victim older than 13, which is 10 years in prison without the benefit of parole.
