NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was arrested Tuesday for discharging a gun within the Natchez city limits.

Don Barnes Jr., 19, 81 Redd Loop Road, was arrested on the charge of shooting inside the city limits Monday evening, Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.

Armstrong said Barnes was arrested after reports of shots fired in the 700-block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Armstrong said Barnes was brought into the Natchez Police Department after Adams County deputies arrested him on Redd Loop Road.

“A man on the scene identified him and ACSO picked him up and brought him in,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong said Barnes admitted to shooting the gun.

“His own admission is that he fired the gun in the air, so that is what he has been charged with,” Armstrong said.

The gun Barnes used has since been retrieved and is in the possession of the police department, Armstrong said.
