NATCHEZ — The Scotlandville Magnet High School Hornets used a 26-point third quarter to pull away for a decisive 53-14 win over the Natchez High School Bulldogs Friday night at Tom F. Williams Memorial Stadium.
James Singleton completed 11 of 21 passes for 130 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown pass to Eldrin Brown. Antonio Robinson had one interception on defense.
“That was a very good football team we played tonight,” Natchez head coach Roy Rigsby said. “I liked the attitude of our guys in terms of fighting for one another in terms of a loss. (Scotlandville) has a big running back, No. 26 (Marlon Gunn Jr.). We had problems stopping him. He had some big runs.
The Hornets led 18-0 before Natchez High scored with 2:49 to go until halftime to make it an 18-8 game. But the Bulldogs would get no closer as Scotlandville went on a tear in the third quarter.
“They’re a well-coached team. I’m proud of the guys for continuing to fight all the way through,” Rigsby said
Natchez High (2-2) is off next week before opening up MHSAA Region 3-5A play on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at home against Jim Hill High School.
