NATCHEZ — The Natchez Police Department will administer an entry-level police exam Oct. 4 to applicants who are interested in becoming Natchez police officers, said Walter Armstrong, Natchez police chief.
“People who are interested in applying should go down to the human resources department and get an application to apply and turn it in by Oct. 2,” Armstrong said.
The Human Resources office is located in City Hall at 124 S. Pearl St., Natchez.
Armstrong said the computer exam would be administered Oct. 4 at Copiah-Lincoln Community College Natchez Campus.
Successful applicants must be 21 years of age, Armstrong said, and cannot be a convicted felon, must pass the police exam, complete a background investigation, pass a police agility test and would be administered a psychological test.
Applicants who pass those requirements would attend a police academy that starts in January, Armstrong said.
Natchez currently has seven police officer positions open out of the department’s total of 43 officers.
Starting pay is $15.50 per hour.
