NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez’s search for a City Clerk may soon be coming to a close after officials advertised and interviewed for the position, they said.

After a special-called meeting Monday, Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell said the Board of Aldermen agreed to let him offer the job to a particular candidate for the position.

Grennell did not disclose the name of the prospective clerk.

“The board agreed to let me go ahead and make the offer, which I will do tomorrow (Tuesday),” Grennell said.

Grennell said the board had already advertised for the open position and met with potential candidates to replace the former City Clerk Charles Crump who resigned abruptly last month.

Crump, formerly of Vicksburg, started working for the city Feb. 19 replacing former City Clerk Megan Edmonds. Crump resigned seven months later on Sept. 20 — stating that certain members of the Board of Aldermen were not cooperative with him as city clerk and would not take his financial advice.

Since his resignation, the board of aldermen appointed Pamela Patterson — the city’s administrative assistant — as interim city clerk.
