Prep football roundup: Wingfield upsets Natchez High

JACKSON — The Wingfield High School Falcons picked up their first win of the season with a stunning 28-6 win over the Natchez High School Bulldogs in an MHSAA Region 3-5A game Friday night.
A passing touchdown gave Wingfield a 14-0 lead before Natchez High’s Mike Williams returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to make it a 14-6 game with nearly 4:00 to go until halftime.
That would be the closest the Bulldogs would get as the Falcons (1-6, 1-1) scored two touchdowns in the second half to put the game away.
Natchez High (3-3, 1-1) will look to regroup when it hosts Laurel High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Delta Charter 20, Sicily Island 8
FERRIDAY — The Delta Charter School Storm finally got its first win of the 2019 season with a 20-8 win over the reeling Sicily Island High School Tigers Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.
Delta Charter took a 13-0 lead into halftime and maintained that lead until Sicily Island finally got on the scoreboard with 3:59 to go in the fourth quarter. The Storm quickly answered with a touchdown with 3:13 to go.
Sicily Island (2-3, 0-2) hosts St. Frederick High School Friday at 7 p.m. Delta Charter (1-4, 1-1) plays at Delhi High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Jefferson County 24, Port Gibson 22
FAYETTE — What was an offensive-minded game in the first half turned into a defensive battle in the second half as the Jefferson County High School Tigers defeated the rival Port Gibson High School Blue Waves in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game Friday night.
The game was tied at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter before Jefferson County scored 16 points while Port Gibson managed 14 points to give the Tigers a 24-22 halftime lead. That would be it for the scoring the rest of the game.
Jefferson County (3-4, 1-0) hosts Wilkinson County High School Friday at 7 p.m.
WCCA 41, Christian Collegiate Academy 6
GULFPORT — Roderick Bailey accounted for three total touchdowns as the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams defeated the Christian Collegiate Academy Bulldogs 41-6 Friday night in an MAIS 8-Man District 2-1A game.
Bailey had two short touchdown runs and a 71-yard kickoff return for a score right after Christian Collegiate scored its only touchdown of the game on a 70-yard run by Bryce King.
The long touchdown run by King was most of the Bulldogs’ offense as they were held to 87 total yards.
WCCA (6-1, 1-0) plays at Tensas Academy Friday at 7 p.m.
Rayville 26, Vidalia 12
RAYVILLE, La. — The Rayville High School Hornets earned their first win of the season with a 26-12 win over the Vidalia High School Vikings Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.
Vidalia (1-4, 0-1) hosts General Trass High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Sylva-Bay Academy 28, Centreville Academy 16
CENTREVILLE — Centreville Academy tried valiantly to rally back from a huge deficit, but it was not meant to be as the Tigers lost to the Sylva-Bay Academy Saints 28-16 Friday night in MAIS District 3-3A action.
Sylva-Bay took a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 28-0 at halftime. The start of the game was delayed by about a half an hour due to lightning in the area. The Tigers scored 16 points in the third quarter, only to be shut out in the fourth quarter.
Centreville Academy (3-4, 0-1) hosts Cathedral High School for homecoming Friday at 7 p.m.
Wilkinson County 28, Franklin County 12
WOODVILLE — The Wilkinson County High School Wildcats celebrated homecoming with a 28-12 win over the Franklin County High School Bulldogs in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game Friday night.
The opening kickoff was delayed for an hour and 20 minutes due to heavy rain and lightning that started earlier in the afternoon. The score was tied 12-12 nearly midway through the fourth quarter before the Wildcats scored two touchdowns and two two-point conversions late in the game.
Franklin County (1-6, 0-1) hosts Hazlehurst High School Friday at 7 p.m. Wilkinson County (2-5, 1-0) plays at Jefferson County High School Friday at 7 p.m.
