NATCHEZ — The Natchez Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. squeezed in another opportunity for Adams County voters to hear from local candidates before the Nov. 5 general election during a candidates debate Monday evening at Alcorn State University’s Natchez campus.

Approximately 50 people heard from candidates for Adams County Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, Southern District Justice Court Judge, District 96 Mississippi State Representative, Adams County Supervisors and Tax Collector during Monday’s forum.

Candidates were able to present their campaign platforms and answer questions directed to them from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority officers.

Catherine Latham of Delta Sigma Theta said the forum is just one of the many services that the Natchez chapter provides to their local community. Latham said Delta Sigma Theta also strives to provide assistance and support for other communities through established programs throughout the nation and the world.

“Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public services, and under that umbrella falls political awareness and involvement,” Latham said. “So this is one of the things we do for our community. …

“We wanted to give our candidates a final opportunity to have a voice before Nov. 5. We also wanted voters who are undecided to have one last chance to know what they are going to do to move our community forward.”
