Prep Football Preview: Natchez hosts West Jones for homecoming

Eight local high school football games are going to be played tonight.

The Game of the Week is Natchez High Bulldogs vs. the West Jones High Mustangs.

The Bulldogs (4-4. 2-2 Region 3-5A) need one more win to earn a spot in the Class 5A playoffs. The Bulldogs need the Brookhaven High Panthers to lose to Jim Hill High Tigers, to advance to the 5A playoffs.

In the Class 5A standings, West Jones is in first place with a 4-0 record against other Region 3-5A opponents. Natchez is 2-2 in the Class 5A standings.

The game tonight is homecoming for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs won 21-14 in last season’s homecoming game over Forest Hill High.

The kickoff is set to start at 7 p.m. today at Tom F. Williams Memorial Stadium at Natchez High School.

Due to anticipated rain showers tonight, four games were played on Thursday night.

Below are the remaining games to be played tonight.

Ferriday High at Mangham High

What’s at stake: Both teams come into this District 2-2A game undefeated. Trojans Head Coach Stanley Smith said the winner will probably win the district championship.

The game is set to start at 7 p.m. today at Mangham High School.

Cathedral at St. Aloysius

What’s at stake: The last regular season game of the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools District 4 Class 4A. With a Cathedral win, the Green Wave can earn a higher seed in the MAIS Class 4A playoffs.

The kickoff is set to start at 7 p.m. today at St. Aloysius High School.

Vidalia vs. Madison Parish

What’s at stake: With no chance at winning a District 2-2A championship, both teams are trying to win another game for seeding in the 2A playoffs and have a better season. The Vikings are 1-6 overall while the Madison Parish Jaguars are 1-6 overall.

The game will start at 7 p.m. today at Vidalia High School.

Sicily Island at Cedar Creek

What’s at stake: The Sicily Island Tigers need to win to erase their 0-4 record in Louisiana High School Athletics Association District 2-1A play. The Cedar Creek Cougars need to win this game to earn a spot in the District 2 championship game. Cedar Creek is tied with Oak Grove in the District 2-1A standings.

The rest of the games start at 7 p.m. tonight.
