The Adams County Christian School third and fourth grade White Lightning team went undefeated in the American Youth Organization season and won 32-14 against the Cathedral Roux 61 on Monday night in the Super Bowl.

Cathedral Roux 61 used up 7 minutes and 50 seconds of the 8 minute first quarter to score the only touchdown in the quarter.

Chase Gamberi ran the ball and scored the two-point conversion. Gamberi ran for another rushing touchdown in fourth quarter.

Roux 61 Head Coach Wes Middleton said the team played really well in the game.

“Chase ran the ball very hard and we had some good tackles on defense by some of the boys,” Middleton said. “All in all, it was a team effort. They played a really strong and good ACCS team. They battled them pretty good for a while. I was proud of them.”

After Gamberi scored the first touchdown of the game for Roux 61, White Lightning head coach Jody Smith said he made an adjustment on defense and ACCS shut Cathedral down.

White Lightning scored 32 unanswered points after Roux 61’s first touchdown. In the 32-point span, ACCS rushed for four touchdowns. Aidan Barnes led the team with two while Ryder Smith and K’vian Smith ran for one each. K’vian also obtained at least seven tackles.

After the touchdowns, White Lightning converted four two-point conversions. Three out of the four were rushing while the fourth was a pass by Barnes to Derrick Byrd.

“This team is really the best team I have had in the four years I have coached,” Jody said. “This was the most complete team we have had. To be honest, these boys have won every game at least by 20 points. They have really done well.”

On the White Lightning team, Smith, Barnes, John Riley Spillers and Ace Guedon are four fourth graders who have won 24 straight games since losing the first game of the season in the second grade.

During the season, ACCS faced both Delta Charter and Cathedral three times in the AYA. Then, ACCS travelled to Brookhaven Academy and Vidalia to play two non-conference games. ACCS won 35-14 against Brookhaven Academy and won 24-0 against Vidalia. Jody said White Lightning did not punt the ball all season.

“The only way we were stopped was if we fumbled the ball or an interception,” Jody said. “We fumbled the ball a couple of times and we threw an interception. The boys were pretty much dominated, since we didn’t punt.”

Cathedral finished the season as runner-ups again in the Super Bowl. Middleton said he enjoyed the time he spent with the team this season.

“I enjoyed being hopefully a positive role model in their life,” Middleton said. “I just wanted to be a positive role model and tried to teach the boys good sportsmanship.”
