WHITE CASTLE, La. — Delta Charter School saw its 2019 season come to an end Friday night as the No. 19 seed Storm lost to the No. 3 seed White Castle High School Bulldogs 32-6 in the second round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.
In the first quarter, White Castle played like a team that was trying to shake off the rust after receiving a first-round bye and only led Delta Charter 6-0 at the end of the quarter.
But any thoughts of the Storm pulling off yet another upset after defeating No. 14 seed Plain Dealing High School a week earlier in the first round ended when Marcus Williams constantly ran over and around Delta Charter’s defense on touchdown runs of 35 and 48 yards in the second quarter.
Tahj Favorite added a two-point conversion run after Williams’ second TD run of the quarter, which occurred with 1:10 left until halftime. That would allow the Bulldogs to take a 20-0 lead into the half.
White Castle added to its lead with a five-yard run by Williams and a 5-yard pass from Favorite to Keith Landry Jr. to go ahead 32-0 lead. The Bulldogs appeared on their way to shutting out Delta Charter before the Storm finally got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter thanks to a 35-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Kavarius Whitehead.
Delta Charter finished the season with a 4-8 overall record. White Castle improved to 7-3 overall and will take on familiar opponent in No. 6 seed and District 7-1A rival East Iberville High School next Friday in the quarterfinals. The Tigers needed overtime to fend off No. 11 seed Grand Lake High School 28-20 in another second-round match-up.
