NATCHEZ —Three suspects are being questioned by Natchez Police for the brazen daytime burglary Tuesday of a home in the Fatherland subdivision area of Natchez.

Thieves kicked in a back door of the home and targeted four weapons — two long guns and two pistols, according to police reports.

Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong would not name the suspects, but said his officers have recovered the two long guns taken from the North Meadow Road home, worth a total of about $10,000.

One was an AR-15 assault-type weapon with a thermal scope and another was a rifle with a scope.

“We also recovered four clips loaded to the hilt,” Armstrong said.

Interrogations of the suspects began late Wednesday afternoon. While the two pistols taken in the burglary have yet to be recovered, officers recovered another gun during their roundup of the suspects.

Armstrong said he thinks these suspects are responsible for a rash of recent burglaries and said his department could wind up closing three or four other cases.

He said Tuesday morning’s burglary took place after the residents left for work and before lunchtime on Tuesday.

“The spouse went home for lunch and found that the door had been kicked in,” he said. “She called the police and we arrived and cleared the house, making certain no one was still inside.”

Armstrong said the husband came home and the two determined the only thing missing was the four weapons.

Armstrong would not reveal how his investigators found the suspects, but said they had followed up on several leads.

He said more information would be released as the investigation continues.
